Red or Dead

New assignment time! Of course, it was new a few weeks ago ^^;
Anyways, I'm in a team with Rachel, Lexi, Sam, Sean and Dan. Basically the task is to try and promote the spirit of the company Red or Dead in a minute long film, using an old concept of Space Baby. We seem to have quite a bit of room for interpretation, so that's cool.

We've gone for a surreal, circus parade sort of atmosphere; in other words, pretty much anything goes.
Above is some concept work I did for the pdf pitch that was put together. I kinda like the background, but I know I need to practise be able to do more convincing digital paintings. My colour choices were basically governed by a thought process of 'ooo, that looks purdy!' and I basically just blitzed in and abused the brush tools. Practise practise practise.
Well, will keep ya posted as things progress.

Much needed update: Funny in 15

Woot, so this is done! I was on a team with Elisabeth and Heidi. Elisabeth covered pre-production and editing, Heidi was the director/ animator, and I did the colouring. This was a good way to launch me into using ToonBoom, which I had been a bit uncertain of before. I quite like the software, and would definitely like to be able to do more with it some day. Must practise! I'd better brush up on my animation principles too :P
I really liked working on this project, and I'm happy with the result. Obviously I know I have a long way to go, but come on, those seagull battle cries are the stuff of art! Kudos to Alex Barnes and Joshua Smyth for that :)

Much needed blog update: title sequence

Wow, kay I haven't updated my blog in a while. Definitely will start keeping on top of that, as this stuff is kind of old. Basically, here's some of the stuff I did for the title sequence project. I was in a team with Alex Barnes, Nick Turner and Ben Bromley. 

As far as this project went, it gave me the nudge I needed to start using photoshop, so I'm happy with that. Because I was trying to emulate the art deco style for the backgrounds, it worked out pretty well because I don't have a clue about shading and how to use all the different filters and all that jazz, so a simple style was a good starting point. 

I want to learn how to use photoshop in greater depth, so guess I'd better start practising ;) Actually, I need to improve on my drawing skills too. What use is having a knowledge of the tools if you can't then do anything with them afterwards?

Well, the title pretty much says it all...heh. I really need to work on consistency in shading and volume, but hey, everyone has to start somewhere. I used Photoshop and Premiere to cobble these together. TTFN
